Giving back to the community is a passion of the Engineering Society and we run many charity and outreach initiatives each year centered on giving back to the KW community and to the engineering profession. Our charity events raise money for a cause chosen by the engineering students at Waterloo. Some of our more popular events are listed below. Education Outreach
Education outreach is a program that aims to bring engineering into he community and get kids excited about pursuing a career in engineering. In partnership with THE MUSEUM in Kitchener the Society has run many activities on weekends including bridge building, rocket crash, egg drops, and exploring surface tension.
Charity and Community Service
Bringing volunteerism to the Engineering Society has led the team to give back to the Waterloo Region every year. With participation in initiatives like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, donation kit stuffing events, blood runs, patch auctions and more, the Society strives to use its influence to introduce students to local, grassroots causes.
Bus Push
Why ride the bus when you can pull it yourself? A question that the Society has been asking since 1977 when the bus push was first held at the University of Waterloo. Now the annual event is a beloved tradition that raises money for a local charity and continues to unite students with the community. The route has historically spanned 6.5km from UW down University Avenue onto King Street, ending at Kitchener Market Square.
Pride
The Toronto Pride Parade is a huge gathering of support for the LGBTQ+ community and every year since 2013, the Society has joined in! The Tool and its bearers aren’t the only ones celebrating pride atop a Society float, as a large group of students from Waterloo always join the parade to commemorate the colourful community.
