EngSoc runs a ton of social events every term, and guess what, you're invited! Yes you! We are all engineering students, and we all have a heavy work load, but socializing is a great way to relax and have some fun (Reminder: We need fun to avoid going crazy). Some of these events are licensed, but it is always our first priority to make sure all events are All-Ages, meaning that members of any age can attend. These events are paid for by the student fees paid by our members, and our directors do their best to make sure you have fun at them! These events are advertised on our poster boards, our mailing list, our google calendar, our whiteboard (outside the Orifice), the Event-A-Tron, Facebook, and via announcements at EngSoc Meetings. We do this because we want to make sure our members know about our events, so they have the chance to attend. We do our best to cater to our diverse membership, and we're sure there's something that's of interest to you. If there isn't, feel free to get in contact with the Exec and run it yourself.
These are the social events that we typically run every term:
Three times each term, EngSoc organizes casual gatherings called OTs. Traditionally we host a BOT (Beginning of Term), MOT (Middle of Term), and EOT (End of Term). The is is a longstanding tradition of the Engineering Society, and has been has been happening each term for longer than we and many alumni can remember. This event is a great excuse to grab some friends and mingle with other engineering students. Everyone is welcome! This is an All-Ages Licensed event.

Who ever said the only thing engineering students are good at is math and science?! This event gives the opportunity for students to showcase their talents (whatever they may be). This event is usually mostly comprised of musical acts, but it is intended for all kinds of talents (juggling, stand up comedy, human calculator). Between acts the MC usually has certain activities for members of the audience to partake in. If you have a talent that you would like to share, or even just want to watch and support your fellow students, come to talent and see what it's all about! Everyone is invited! This is an All-Ages Licensed event.

Each term a group of engineering students get together to practice and present their acting skills. They choose a play and spend much of the term learning their lines and rehearing. You don't need any acting experience to participate! All students are welcome to participate as actors/actresses and everyone is welcome to spectate in the audience. There are traditionally three shows at the end of the term, and tickets are usually in the $5 to $10 range. At the first two shows the actors showcase what they have been working on all term. In the third and final show the actors/actresses usually let loose and have some fun with the audience in the context of the play. This event is tons of fun for both parties, and always a blast!

The Engineering Scavenger Hunt (SCUNT) is a longstanding tradition similar to the one in frosh week, but with a larger scope. The event is traditionally 24 hours long (Friday noon to Saturday noon), and usually includes a field trip. There is always an acquisition list that contains items which are very difficult to procure (a perpetual motion machine), but creative alternatives are usually accepted. SCUNT also comprises of various side challenges to designed to engage participants that would rather not hunt down items (Full Contact Calculus, Duct Tape to a Wall, Calvin Ball). In recent years the event has occasionally been shortened to 12 hours in order to attract more participants. Class teams are encouraged, but everyone is encourage to participate (Directors will find you a team if you don't have one).

Semi-Formal happens every term and gives engineering students a chance to dress up and mingle with their peers. This usually takes the form of a catered dinner followed by a dance with a DJ, and a visit from the TOOL. The dinner has been omitted in recent years due to a lack of interest. The dance is always a hit, especially when other faculties are invited! When the TOOL comes you will have a chance to take your picture with it and the toolbearers. Don't worry about knowing how to dance, you can always follow someone's lead! As usual everyone is welcome! This is an All-Ages Licensed event.

This event occurs on the Sunday evening following Frosh Week. EngSoc hires comedians, books out a large hall and invites the masses! This is the event where the winning team of frosh week is announced, along with the distribution of psycho frosh awards from each colour group. Come on out for a good laugh! This is a Licensed All-Ages Event.

Each term the music directors usually organize a coffee house or two along with some open mics on Friday afternoons in POETS. Anyone is welcome to perform, even if you don't play a musical instrument. You can read poetry, short stories, or even just tell jokes. This event features a laid back atmosphere that is different from the high energy of other events. Come on out and groove with EngSoc!

Each class has the opportunity to have a few year spirit directors which run events for their graduating class (Eg. Year Spirit 201X). Events commonly run by these directors are meant to raise awareness and celebrate milestones along the path to IRS and IRC (Iron Ring Stag, and Iron Ring Ceremony). Directors sometimes go above an beyond and organize awesome events meant to help students meet others in their year. Watch out for advertisements of events run by these directors (1000 Days 'Till IRS, or 201X Trip to Wonderland).

Periodically POETS Managers organize special events in POETS. In this past examples of this have been Superbowl and St. Paddy's Day Celebrations. These events are normally licensed, but always All-Ages!
