From time to time student and professional groups will organize conferences and invite delegates from all of their member schools. These conferences can take the form of just about everything from specific topics like Women in Engineering at the National Conference on Women in Engineering (NCWIE) to annual general meetings of bodies like ESSCO and CFES. Delegates are chosen from the applicants received by the VP External of each respective society.

The flagship event of the CFES, Congress serves as both the Annual General Meeting of the Federation, as well as a leadership development forum for engineering students from across Canada. Congress is typically held in the first week or January, spanning a full week of leadership development sessions, informational presentations, guest speakers from industry, a career fair and culminating in plenary, the decision making body of the CFES. At congress, the CFES National Executive and other officer positions are elected, and bids are made to host other CFES activities.

CFES Presidents' meeting is a conference usually attended by the VP Externals from each membered society. It is called the Presidents' Meeting because it is a meeting called by the President of the CFES. This conference is used as a interim meeting for the CFES Executives and Commissioners to show the membered schools the progress they have made so far. It gives the VP Externals a chance to hold the CFES Executive and Commissioners accountable. Since there is a plenary at this conference, mandates can be made for actions to be completed before CFES Congress. This confrence also facilitates discussion about CFES Congress and what sessions/events we would like to see.

The Annual General Meeting allows the representatives from all members active in ESSCO to come together, bring forth ideas, and brainstorm possible opportunities to promote engineering, the PEO and OSPE.This information is communicated to the VP Externals at each society. The hope is that VP Externals, in representing their institutions, not stop at communicating the doingsof external organizations to their schools. Instead, it is expected that they also act as a meansfor the ideas and innovations of engineering students at their schools to reach the proper external organizations, and hopefully comeinto execution. Students often possess inspirational suggestions for the betterment of engineering education, of ESSs, or pursuit of a P. Eng, or engineering advocacy. Many are unaware of where to go withtheir ideas, or even unaware of the possibility of having their ideas come into execution. The Annual General Meeting provides the means, and the information for EngSocs across Ontario to successfully run their societies.
