Competitions

This page will act as a place to view all Competitions happening in the Engineering World.  This can be anything from weekly colouring contests and P*5 contests, to ongoing engineering contests from External Orginizations.

Bi-Weekly/Weekly Contests

 P**5 CHALLENGES!

1)  Did you know that you get P**5 points for submissions to the exam bank or to the scholarship bank?  Well, for the next two weeks we will give you double the number of points.  Maybe even triple!  Maybe even 6 times as many... but probably not.  Also, the scholarship awareness director is planning on giving Conestoga mall gift certificates to the individuals who submit the most scholarships ranging from $40 to $80.  You'd be crazy not to submit anything!

2)  Who doesn't love synergy between the P**5 directors and the Environmental Director!  Do any of the following (or more) and rack up stupid amounts of points.   Remember to send proof of all events/initiatives to ptothefive@engsoc.uwaterloo.ca  (pics or it didn't happen!)

Buy locally grown food
Locally grown food travels a shorter distance and is therefore less dependent on fossil fuels. Buy local! It’s good for the environment and the local economy.

Sign a petition aimed at environmental improvement
By adding your signature to a petition you are saying you want change.  Many petitions change environmental law/practice every year.

Host a clothes swap party
Update your wardrobe and be environmentally friendly all in one go!  Please see the link below for a clothes swap party guide (note: this is not limited to just clothes, swap anything you want!)

Revive old clothing or belongings
Give a new life to your old belongings, make them feel loved again! Thousands of tonnes of textiles needlessly end up in landfills every year, help stop this habit by reviving or donating your old belongings.

Make a commitment to only use a travel mug/re-usable cup
CnD, Williams, Tim Horton's etc.

Make the switch to a reusable bottle!
A 50% reduction in single use plastic water bottles, in Vancouver alone, in a year would result in; 17 million less bottles in landfills; 8.375 million kilograms reduction of greenhouses gasses; 32 thousand fewer barrels of oil used. (toxicfreecanada.ca

Host a vegetarian dinner
Extra points for vegan dinner!  Intensive agriculture associated with much of the meat on the market is environmentally unsustainable. The primary environmental concerns with animal products are pollution and the use of resources such as fossil fuels, water, and land.

Identify environmental initiatives by the University of Waterloo
The University of Waterloo has many environmental initiatives; how many can you name?

Identify a major environmental issue in the Waterloo Region
There are several environmental issues facing the Region of Waterloo, which ones do you know of? Bonus points for a suggested way the region can improve!
