What is EngSoc?

What is EngSoc?
The Engineering Society is the official organization of all engineering undergraduate students at the University of Waterloo.  We exist to support you through your time at Waterloo, whether it be academically or socially.  We provide academic services such as resume critiques, an online exam bank, and cheap report binding, as well as a wide variety of events throughout the term ranging from trivia competitions to skydiving to theatre productions!  We also represent student interests through representation to the Faculty of Engineering, various University-level Committees,  other on campus student societies, and external Engineering organizations. For more info about how we represent you check out our representation page.

A-Soc/B-Soc
Since we alternate between coop and school every four months, the Engineering Society is split into two separate entities: Society "A" (A-Soc) and Society "B" (B-Soc).  Each term the on-stream society switches between the two societies, allowing us to maintain a consistent set of executive, directors, and members.  A-Soc consists of students having a spring term in an odd-numbered year, and B-Soc represents students having a spring term in an even-numbered year.

Structure
All engineering undergraduate students are automatically members of the society. Each engineering class elects 1-2 representatives each term who have voting privileges during Society council meetings, but anyone can attend meetings regardless of whether or not they are a class rep.

There are five elected executive officers for each Society: President, Vice President External, Vice President Education, Vice President Internal, and Vice President Finance.  The positions have a 16-month duration, lasting two school terms and two coop terms.

In addition, Directors are appointed by the executive each term to take on other duties of the Society.  Director positions last 8 months - one school term and the preceding coop term.
